Benefits Of The Last 2 Ayat Of Surah Al-Baqarah
On the Night of Ascension, when our prophet Muhamed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reached Baitul Mamoor to see Allah SWT, he was given these verses, Surah Baqarah last two Ayat, that’s why reciting it every night is Mostahab to protect us from any evil and mentally support us as happened with our Prophet . Surah Baqarah last two Ayat have countless benefits, starting from the comfort you feel during reciting them, to having an approach for accepted prayers from you, until you feel secure the entire night against any evil. Let’s give a look at them:
1-Source of Comfort
These two verses are special as many hadiths mention their blessings,
Ibn Mas’ud says: “While the Messenger of Allah was with Jibril, he heard a noise from above. Jibril lifted his sight to the sky and said, ‘This is a door that was opened just now in heaven, and it was never opened before.’ An angel came down through the door to the Prophet and said, `Receive the good news of two lights that you have been given and which no Prophet before you was given: the Opener of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the last Ayat in Surah Al-Baqarah. You will not read a letter of them, but you will be granted its benefit.’” (Muslim)
This Hadith emphasizes the significance of the verses by encouraging people to have their blessings.
2-Physical and Emotional Healing
The benefits of Surah Baqarah last two Ayat are not limited to their blessings, but they extend beyond that as they have healing properties. Reciting them with sincerity and the intention of seeking relief can be beneficial for various illnesses and during times of stress.
3-Recitation Reward
Consistency in reciting them can give you a blessing, protection, and the reward of the Quran recitation.
Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”
[At- Tirmidhi].
Imagine how many rewards you will have when you integrate them into your daily life, after prayers before sleeping, or whenever you feel overwhelmed. Aside from empowering your faith and connection to Allah. Al-Walid Academy offers a Quran Recitation Course that helps you enhance your reading skills.
Understanding The Last Two Verses Of Surah Al-Baqarah
They were addressed to our Prophet Muhamed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during his most difficult time, the Year of Sorrow, when Prophet Muhammad lost his wife Khadijah and his uncle Abu Talib. They were the strongest supporters of him.
The following is a simplified interpretation derived from the commentary of Ibn Kathir:
“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], ‘We make no distinction between any of His messengers.’
“ءَامَنَ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِۦ”
The believers must believe that there is no Lord except Allah, he is the Only and the Sustainer, who is only worthy of worship. They also must believe in all of the following:
- Angels who are depicted as agents of Allah to communicate his messages to prophets and hold other responsibilities, like Jibril, Mika’il, and Israfil.
- Allah’s Prophets and Messengers.
- The Books that have been revealed from Allah to the Messengers.
The believers must believe in Allah’s Prophets and not differentiate between any of them.
“’ And they say, ‘We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”
“وَقَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ”
The believers say to Allah we heard Your statement, O our Lord, we have been comprehending, implementing it, and adhering to it. Then, they ask Allah for forgiveness. The second verse is like a response from Allah to their request:
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.”
“لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا”
Allah does not ask anyone what is beyond their capacity or burden them with anything more than what he emotionally and physically can handle. It points out Allah’s kindness and compassion with His creation. So, don’t feel drained or overwhelmed whenever you are in a rough situation, always remember this verse in your life and remind yourself of that “as long as Allah gives me this responsibility, I’m capable of bearing it.”
“It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned.”
“لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا ٱكْتَسَبَتْ”
Allah will judge His servants, rewarding righteous ones and punishing sinners. Each soul will bes asked about:
- [good] it has gained: Good deeds it makes and gets rewarded for them.
- [evil] it has earned: Bad actions and sins it committed.
Turning to the believer’s sayings:
“Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
They are asking Allah to forgive them or commit mistakes unintentionally, considering what You know of our shortcomings and errors and not to burden them like those who were before them “Jews and Christians.” Or ordering us to perform difficult deeds like them.
Then, they seek the mercy of Allah and protect them from falling into other mistakes, saying you are our supporter and protector “Mawlana.” And give us victory on those who rejected Your religion and denied Your Oneness.
